Autumn tips
Tree Care Tips
General guidance on tree care through the year — always have significant tree work assessed by a qualified arborist first.
Have trees checked before winter storms
Autumn is a sensible time for a health check on larger or older trees, before winter winds put real stress on any weak or damaged limbs.
Clear fallen fruit and debris
Windfall fruit and fallen branches left under a tree attract pests and disease — clearing them regularly keeps the base of the tree healthier.
Watch for fungal brackets at the base of trees
Fungal brackets appearing on a trunk or around the base in autumn can be a sign of internal decay, and are worth having assessed by a qualified arborist.
Rake up and dispose of diseased leaves
Leaves from a tree that had disease or pest problems over summer are best cleared and removed rather than left to rot down nearby, to reduce reinfection next year.
Good to know
Tree Surgery — your questions
Are you qualified and insured?
Yes — our tree work is carried out by experienced specialists and is fully insured, with safety always the priority.
Do I need permission to remove a tree?
Some trees are protected by Tree Preservation Orders or sit in conservation areas. We can advise and check before any work begins.
Do you remove the wood?
Yes — we can take away all arising timber and green waste, or leave logs for you if you would like them.
Are tree surgeons required to hold a specific qualification?
There's no single licence to operate as a tree surgeon in the UK, but reputable practitioners hold recognised chainsaw and aerial work qualifications, such as those awarded by City & Guilds NPTC, and are trained to current industry safety standards. It's always worth asking to see evidence of this before any tree work goes ahead.
Can you remove a whole tree, or just prune it?
Both — we handle everything from a light prune or crown reduction through to a full removal and stump grinding, depending on what the tree actually needs rather than what is easiest.
