How To Plant For Summer Colour

If you want to make sure that your flower beds are beautiful and colourful this summer, there are a few plants you should consider adding to your borders – and now is the time of year to start planting.

Writing for iNews, Guy Barter explained that it’s worth the effort to sow and plant a few varieties of flowers now to ensure that your garden is a riot of colourful blooms once the weather truly warms up.

He recommended a few different kinds of flowers to include in your green space. Top of the list were dahlias and canna. Find a spot in full sun or very light shade to get the best results from these plants and remember that taller dahlias may need stakes for support.

Other plants you can get in the ground now are zinnias and cosmos, Mr Barter stated. If you’re growing these from seed you need to start them in a greenhouse before moving them to your borders once the roots have filled their cell.

He also offered some advice to anyone who’s moving plants from indoors to outdoors. The key is to do so gradually, such as by using a coldframe and gradually opening the lid, or even simply by putting the plants outdoors by day and bringing them inside again overnight.

Hiring someone to help with garden maintenance in North London could be a good idea if you don’t know where to start with your garden but want to have a beautiful space come the summer.

You may also be interested in growing your own vegetables – if that’s the case then you need to make sure you don’t fall behind with your planting. In April, for instance, potatoes, courgette and pumpkin plants should all go into the ground.
